Chanslor Wildlife works with many Federal, State and County agencies on habitat programs regarding
wetlands and the Salmon Creek watershed and estuary located at Chanslor Ranch. Chanslor Wildlife manages Chanslor Ranch and a significant program is underway to create a demonstration sediment control program with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (The Natural Resource Conservation Service)
This program is related to the three year
which confirmed the negative effect sediment has had on coho salmon habitat in the Salmon Creek watershed. The fact that the creek is much shallower and warmer than in prior years has likely been a contributing factor in no coho being observed in Salmon Creek since 1996. On December 11th, 2008, the California Department of Fish and Game reintroduced mature coho salmon to Salmon Creek at Chanslor Ranch. This is concurrent with the completion of phase 1 of the USDA sediment control program.
